Low cost airlines serve the Vendée area and car hire is available at airports. Nantes airport is just an hour from LPO; Rennes and La Rochelle are around two hours away. For an extended holiday, some guests choose to fly to Paris and spend several days sightseeing before their onward journey to Le Pas Opton. Flights to the region are available from regional airports across the UK and Eire.
From Spring half term to 16th September, a minibus service operates to and from Nantes airport on Mondays and changeover days only. Places are limited. The timing of the service depends on flight times and may not coordinate with your own plans, so you may have to wait at the airport or at the holiday park for your accommodation to be ready. Sorry, we do not meet flights arriving after 18.00.
One way: £29/£24/£98 (for adult/under-16/group of two adults + two children)
You could also consider booking a taxi. We recommend that you book in advance. There are many companies to choose from – for a quote, you could call Harmonie on 0033 251 54 56 55.
Routes from the UK – high season and half term
In 2018, low-cost direct flights to Nantes were available from London Gatwick, Birmingham, Bristol, Manchester, Southampton and Edinburgh (with Easyjet, Flybe and Ryanair). Routes and schedules can and do change, so please check each airline’s website for the most up-to-date schedules. Many flights on these routes are seasonal and operate a different timetable for winter/summer.
www.skyscanner.net is a great tool to view all available routes to French airports.
Taking the Eurostar is convenient, comfortable and the perfect way to enjoy a window into France. Choose either of two routes: via Paris, or the city of Lille. Both routes are serviced by Eurostar from London’s St Pancras station, Ebbsfleet or Ashford in Kent.
Eurostar via Lille: Changing at Lille station is easy and you’ll soon be on the high speed TGV service to Nantes.
Eurostar via Paris: You’ll need to take the Metro or a taxi from the Gare du Nord station to Montparnasse station to pick up your TGV service to Nantes.
Arriving at Nantes train station
On arrival at Nantes, you can either hire a car, or continue your journey by local train to St Gilles or Challans, from which the site is just a short taxi ride away. You could take a taxi from Nantes, but this would cost over €100.
If you want to take the train all the way to St Gilles, be sure to plan your journey using the Rail Europe website, setting ‘ST GILLES C DE VIE’ as the destination rather than Nantes.
Booking the Eurostar
You can book via the RailEurope website raileurope.co.uk. Wherever you book, rail tickets are not available more than 90 days before you travel.
